planning classes-my post to my mentee

First years are very busy. The credit minimum is 13.5 and max is 17.5, but people usually end up taking around 15. Keep in mind that classes usually have meetings as well since what we do is mostly team work. So all that really eats into your schedule.
hmm... for good planning classes... Chuck Owen's Systems WS is a headache and a lot of work but good for wrapping your head around large, complex systems. I love any of Veejay's classes. Business Frameworks is also a good intro into the business world. Larry Keeley's class is good and teaches you how to look at innovation and to think big. Along with these and all your core classes you should have a pretty good class list.

Usually you can get into classes of your choice but not always-but that's rare. you should be ok if you register on registration day, aug 23rd.

as for living... that really depends on what you prefer. chicago has a bunch of cute neighborhoods. as for me, i prefer little to no commute, so i live downtown about a 5-10 min walk from school. that's pretty extreme. i'd say that most people live in the wicker park area on the blue line or belmont area on the red line. they're more neighborhoody, trendy, and more alive on the weekends. they're both about a 40-50 min commute from school. downtown is pretty dead on the weekends. the gold coast is also an option; it's about a 20 min walk, 5-10 min bus ride, from school and still near resturants, bars, and the shops.

once you decide where you want to live, you can check out craigslist, apt finders, etc, and also talk to people who live in that neighborhood. since you do need to make a decision before you start school and actually meet people, i'd advise you to blog it and see what people say.
